OC9 Playa Kitchen
We have a very nice kitchen set up that is adequate to prepare and cook food for the 100+ volunteers that will reside "behind Station 9" this year. Many of you will be helping out with meal prep, dishes, and keeping it all organized. We will have a hand washing station this year and gloves for all to wear when working in the kitchen. To make sure that everyone can be prepared, I wanted to provide a checklist and some reminders:
- Bring your own utensils and dishes( which should include a knife, fork, spoon, bowl, plate, and a mug for coffee or tea, along with a water bottle. We do not provide ANY dishes for personal use, so please come prepared. Plastic wine glasses and a nice cocktail glass are good too. Also, you are responsible for washing your own dishes.
- The kitchen is NOT for personal use. We calculate how much propane we need, clean the space between meals and need to monitor water usage in the kitchen. If you want to heat water or do some of your own cooking, please bring your own set up as if you're camping.
- Leave No Trace, means if you pack it in, you pack it out. Please do NOT use the kitchen MOOP buckets and trash cans for your personal trash. The kitchen itself generates enough waste that is picked up daily by providing meals for the whole camp. It's simply too much to expect these hard working DPW folks to haul out trash for over a hundred people daily. Radical Self-Reliance. I will keep saying it.
The Chefs put together a fabulous menu that is posted under the "Menu" section. Please remember that we are providing a meal, not an all you can eat buffet. We ask that you wait for seconds until everyone has had a chance to get through the line and that you leave the veggie/vegan options for those who signed up for them. OC9 is known for providing great food and most will tell you they never leave hungry, we just ask for courtesy and consideration as some dishes may be more limited than others.
